CHARACTER NAME: lol yeah we don't know his real name yet. he goes by IV (4)
SERIES: Yu-Gi-Oh! ZeXal
CHRONOLOGY: Episode 50 yeah I changed my mind in the middle of the WDC Finals Eve party while Tron is scaring everyone
CLASS: Villain!
>BACKGROUND:
Yu-Gi-Oh! ZeXal is the fourth series in that one franchise about adults playing children's card games to save the world from ancient or otherworldly magical forces--except this time it is mostly about kids. And there aren't dueling police (aw). And itactually has nothing to do with Domino City--rather, the majority of the plot takes place in the city of Heartland, not to be confused with the amusement park Heartland in the middle of the city.
IV grew up in Heartland with his brothers Chris/V and III. Their father, Byron Arclight, was a scientist working with one Dr. Faker to find a way to open a doorway to another dimension. V worked with them sometimes too, even though he was only about 15 at the time. Byron and Faker called on Kazuma Tsukumo to help them, because he was an adventurer who had been all around the world, also searching for a dimentional doorway, and he probably had more up-to-date knowledge than they did. Together, Kazuma, Byron, and Faker made there way to where they thought the next doorway would appear. And they found it, but Faker betrayed his companions and offered them up as sacrifices to open the doorway.
V kept working with Faker for a while after that to try to discover what had happened to his father, while IV and III were sent to an orphanage; however, this didn't last long and V soon gathered his brothers again and left. Some time later, Byron managed to return, but his experience in the other world changed him into Tron, a little kid hell-bent on revenge.
A year before present canon, IV was a participant in the National Duel Circuit and he was able to get to the finals, where he faced off against Ryoga Kamishiro, aka Shark. At Tron's command, IV dueled Shark's sister not long before their match and ended up using a card Tron had given him that lit the building on fire, severely injuring Shark's sister. Then, knowing Shark wasn't in the best emotional state and again at Tron's command, IV tricked Shark into looking at part of his deck right before their duel. Shark was disqualified and IV won automatically.
Also, sometime before current canon and the World Duel Carnival tournament, IV became an accomplished duelist with several tournament wins under his belt and a huge fan following. So he didn't really need to cheat to beat Ryoga; it was all about Tron wanting to hurt him.
IV, his brothers, and Tron, were all participants in the World Duel Carnival, although when Tron actually did any dueling is a mystery. Tron directed IV to make sure Shark would also participate, which he was happy to do if a little confused about why it was necessary. IV took the opportunity to let Ryoga know that everything that had happened at the National Duel Circuit had been on purpose, to make sure Shark would want to enter the tournament and come after him.
IV's other task in the WDC was to search out the owners of Numbers cards, defeat them, and take the cards from them. The Numbers cards are special cards that can only be destroyed by another Numbers, and are, in fact, the physical manifestations of the memories of the Emissary of the Astral World/the Original Number, Astral. Of course, since he chose his opponents at random by tossing sheets of participants' stats in the air and pinning a few to the wall with cards, who knows how successful that was.
On the second day, IV's chosen opponents included two friends of Yuma Tsukumo, our somewhat hyperactive protagonist and captive friend of Astral. The two were huge fans of IV's public persona and couldn't wait to duel him. So of course, IV had to string them along for a bit before he completely crushed them, to the point of continuing to attack even once the duel was technically over, because he's a jerk like that.
And then Shark showed up, and IV was more than happy to duel him too...except III challenged Shark instead, on orders from Tron that he was to duel Shark and make sure to get a Numbers into his hands. IV reluctantly left, revealing that he was done collecting the Heart Pieces needed to advance to the next stage anyway.
That night, V kidnapped a kid named Haruto, the younger brother of V's personal rival Kaito, who had some sort of power connected to the Astral World and was being used by Dr. Faker because of it. Tron initiated a ritual to transfer Haruto's powers to himself, which caused Haruto an immense amount of pain. Haruto somehow reached out to Kaito and Astral telepathically begging for help, enabling Kaito and Yuma to figure out where he was being held so they could go rescue him. V sent III and IV to intercept them and make sure they didn't interupt the ritual. And the best way to distract them? Why, a duel, of course!
Kaito was a Numbers Hunter like IV, and the brothers were unaware of the cards in Yuma's deck, so at first they really only targeted Kaito. However, Yuma quickly summoned his own Numbers, and the two brothers immediately changed their plans from merely toying with the two to actively trying to defeat them. IV also decided that a great way to distract Kaito and make him suffer was to show him an image of his brother being tortured down below. And it worked, for a while, although Yuma was able to keep himself and Kaito in the game by the skin of their teeth. Then, all of a sudden, Haruto had enough of Tron poking about in his head and managed to send the last bit of his power to his brother, who then summoned a brand new monster than was able to win the game.
Kaito and Astral tried to take III's and IV's Numbers--and in Kaito's case, IV's soul--from them, but they were blocked by some power the brothers had themselves (III's power briefly made Astral visible to...just him? idk the episode is really vague about this). IV started declaring that he would get revenge on Yuma and Kaito for defeating him, but Tron teleported him away before he could finish.
III presumably told the rest of his family about Astral, because they certainly seem to know about him later, and IV probably sulked a bit about having his vengeance speech cut off. And then IV probably spent the next day winning Heart Pieces for V and Tron, because we never see them dueling in the preliminaries but somehow they got to the finals, and also IV doesn't show up in the next few episodes which take place that day. But who knows! They're resourceful; they got their Heart Pieces somehow.
On the third day of the prelims, III decided to investigate Yuma and find out why he'd fought so hard to protect Kaito in their duel, and how he managed to duel without feeling anger or hatred, unlike the rest of them. He watch Yuma and Srark duel, snuck into Yuma's bedroom and made friends with him, and hung out with his family for a bit. It helped him decide that he wanted to help his own family no matter what, so he went back to Tron and asked for him to give him the power to be able to defeat Yuma.
Of course, he still wasn't able to, although he did almost destroy the world, and at the end of the day, III made his way back to them weak and powerless, and he soon fell into a coma. The next morning, IV demanded that Tron power him up too, but Tron said nope! he was disappointed in both him and III. Even though III had fought for him, all he cared about was results, and if they couldn't give him results, he'd have to find someone else, like...Shark. Which of course pissed IV right off, which was probably what Tron was aiming for, really.
The night, V, IV, and Tron attended the eve party of the WDC finals along with everyone else who had collected enough Heart Pieces. IV, still angered by Tron's earlier remarks, tried to confront Shark about it, but he ended up just growling a lot while Shark vowed to do anything it took to defeat him. IV spent the rest of the party in a sour mood in the corner.
PERSONALITY:
At first glance, IV almost seems like he might be a psychopath. He takes pleasure in causing other people pain, calling it his "fan service", and shows no remorse for any of the awful things he's done and seems to enjoy doing. He even goes so far as to say that the expressions people gain when they're suffering and without hope are their most beautiful faces. He has no problem manipulating people into doing what he wants, usually by pretending to be the friendly, gentle, noble Asian Champion everyone believes him to be. He's extremely impulsive and reckless, saying or doing whatever comes to mind without thinking about the consequences or even considering that he might end up having any. He definitely sees himself as better than most people, both in general and as a duelist; while he allows Tron and V to boss him around, he's never happy about it, and he practically throws temper tantrums when duels don't go exactly as he wants them to.
IV is something of a sadist, and he doesn't seem like a psychopath for no reason--he does display just about all of those traits--but...he can feel remorse (and does!) and he can feel empathy for others. In fact, he's capable of feeling quite a lot of remorse and empathy. Just about all of it is directed toward members of his family or is because of people he has some amount of respect for--he has absolutely no problem beating random duelists to the ground over and over again, but he does feel sorry about hurting Shark's sister, for instance. And when III was sent into a coma because of his duel with Yuma, IV was the most concerned and the most pissed off about it.
Really, a lot of IV's issues can be attributed to either he being really pissed off at Dr. Faker and the world in general or him just acting out to get more attention. He, like the rest of his family, absolutely hates Dr. Faker and wants revenge on him for tearing apart their family. And he really likes getting attention, no matter who it's coming from or whether it's positive of negative; even if it's negative, at least he's the one in the spotlight for the moment. The only real exception to this is his father, and even with him, IV would rather get negative attention than absolutely no attention at all. Again, at least then, his father would be looking at him.
IV has some serious daddy issues. Even when he and his brothers were younger and their father wasn't an eight-year-old psycho, IV seemed a bit jealous of any attention Byron gave one of his brothers and not him, and when V wanted him to settle down, he immediately reached for threats about their father. It's doubtful that IV actually got less attention than his brothers, not counting V working in the lab with him, but IV is the middle child, so it may have seemed the way to him (or he just. really likes attention. also perfectly true.)
However, when Byron came back from the other world as Tron, not only was he a completely different person motivated only by thoughts of revenge, he also blatantly favored V and III over IV. V and III are considerably calmer and more thoughtful than IV, so it's not too surprising that Tron might entrust them with more tasks, just to make sure they got done. However, that didn't make it any easier on IV. He made sure to do everything Tron ordered him to do, even if it was something he hated himself for (such as hurting Shark's sister), desperately hoping that maybe Tron would acknowledge him and trust him like his brothers and maybe even stop being such a prick. In fact, IV's main personal reason for trying to win the World Duel Carnival is to return his father back to normal.
His jealousy of his brothers means he can be a little harsh with them at times, but he really does care for and respect both of them (unlike Tron, whom he doesn't respect much at all and only cares for because of who he used to be). Bother his brothers are able to put him in his place, although V is a little better at it. He's much closer to III because of their time spent together at an orphanage and because they're a little closer in age, and he seems to generally enjoy his time with III. He and III even have several strategies worked out for when they end up in tag-team duels. And again, IV was the one who seemed to care the most when III was taken out by Yuma.
IV will be coming from a point where Tron's just started to insinuate that IV is only a pawn in a grander scheme to corrupt Shark, and where IV has a more substantial reason to be angry at Yuma, so his feelings about both of them are a little different than they were just an episode or two ago.
IV already disliked Shark for...reasons...probably because Shark is associated with a bunch of really crappy things Tron asked him to do, and also because Shark temporarily "gave up on being a duelist" rather than try to find him and seek out revenge. But now there's a bit of jealousy mixed in as well as anger that Tron keeps talking highly about this kid who's not even part of their family and a desire to prove that he really is better than Shark and he wouldn't have really needed to cheat that one time.
Yuma he'd never even heard of before the tag duel where he and Kaito kicked IV and III's butts, but just losing to Yuma was enough for IV to hate him and want revenge eventually. Now though, Yuma isn't just responsible for beating them that one time, he's responcible for III going out and doing something stupid and getting himself put in a coma. Now Yuma is directly responsible for hurting part of his family (and so is the Original Numbers aka Astral, so when IV connects those dots, he's going to be pissed off at Astral too). Yuma is both less and more of a threat than Shark, so IV doesn't care about him quite as much as Shark, but if he had the opportunity to take Yuma down, he'd take it.
POWER:
Canon Powers
The Crest - all members of the Tron/Arclight family have a glowing crest on their bodies which seem to give them Numbers-related Immunities and also Teleportation. IV's crest appears on his right hand and glows pinkish-purple when it's activated.
Numbers-related Immunities - Usually, the Numbers will corrupt the person in possession of them, amplifying their desires, usually the darker ones, and encouraging them to act on them. They also often cause a person to desire even more Numbers cards, and they make their possessor try to summon them as quickly as possible. The Crests, however, prevent the Numbers from influencing their owners at all. It's implied that using the Numbers weakens the Arclights, but that's never shown with IV and he has three of them so it may just be certain Numbers that are harder to control, none of which are IV's!
The Crests also prevent the Numbers from being taken from their owners at the end of a duel, and because the Numbers tend to latch onto a person through their soul, the Crest also prevents the owner's soul from being taken.
Teleportation -- The Arclights seem to be able to teleport a couple ways: first, by simply disappearing in one place and reappearing in another, and second, with what seems to be a very small wormhole. The wormhole appears either behind or under the Crest owner and they de-materialize into the event horizon and then re-materialize in front of another event horizon on the other side.
D-Gazer Tattoo - The D-Gazers are part of ZeXal's new way of dueling--instead of using holograms like in previous series, the D-Gazers wirelessly connect to each other to create a world of artificial reality overlaying the real world, and this is where duels take place. The duelists' duel disks relay the duel information to the D-Gazers, which then show the duel pretty much the same way the holograms did, but with slightly more "interaction" with the real world.
The Arclight family doesn't use regular D-Gazers. Instead, in the case of III, IV, and V, they have a tattoo which forms around the left eye and turns that iris a different color, as if it was covered by colored glass. The tattoos are able to connect with the AR network and other D-Gazers just like any other D-Gazer.
City Powers
I'd like him to keep the Crest power as is.
The D-Gazer will be adjusted so it not only sees the extremely rare instances of AR from fellow canonmates, but also how things really are and what is actually there that might be invisible to the average human. This would mean things such as seeing illusions for what they really are, being able to see characters who might be invisible or camouflaged, and seeing what a character's true form is if they were changed by the Porter in some way, such as the Homestuck trolls stuck as humans, or if they're a shapeshifter. These images would be superimposed upon whatever is physically there; for instance, if he were talking to Kisanth in her human form, he'd see both human Kisanth and also a giant-ass dragon standing in the same place. This will only work while the D-Gazer tattoo is active, and will only work in person, and will definitely need a permissions post.
He'll also be getting a Porter-given power which can only be used while his D-Gazer tattoo and Crest are active:
People Puppetry: Do you remember the very first Scarecrow we had? Yeah, it's a lot like that.
Basically, IV will be given the ability to produce invisible strings from his fingers, which he can direct to attach to other people and then use to manipulate them like marionettes. The strings will not affect the victim's mind at all, so they'll be completely aware of being jerked around like a puppet, but it will be extremely difficult to break free of it. A regular human pretty much won't be able to; an imPort with, say, a fuckton of will-power or super-strength or pyrokenesis will find it difficult be not impossible to break free.
These strings will be one of those "invisible to the average human" things, so he'll be able to see them, as will any one else with a similar power, but otherwise they're pretty much invisible (to anyone who can see them, they'll seem to glow red). He won't be able to use them on anyone further away than 50 ft, and outside about 25 ft, it'll be increasingly draining to use them at all, until at about 50 ft it wouldn't be worth the effort to try to use them anyway. Inside of 25 ft, it'll still be a somewhat draining power, but only in that he'd have to sleep a couple more hours than usual that night to feel adequately rested. He also won't be able to affect more than two people at a time, one for each hand.
Obviously, this will need a permissions post like whoa, both for allowing it to be used in the first place, and to see who would be able to resist it.
ALSO I'm not sure if adding that would mean he'd have too many powers, but I'm totally cool with dropping one if I need to.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[Oh look, it's IV, looking surly as usual. Actually, he looks like he's in a slightly worse mood than usual, but it's probably just covering up ~feelings~ or something.]
Tch, Father's Day, huh? What a stupid holiday...
[Dear City, what do you do for Father's Day if your father is now a little kid that hates you and also doesn't even exist in this dimension yet. Signed, IV.]
What the fuck is the point in any of us celebrating it anyway? How many of you actually have a father around? How many of them even deserve a holiday? My father...
[IV pauses and briefly just looks frustrated rather than annoyed. But it's over pretty quickly and he's back to being insufferable.]
I guess I didn't really have a point to this. Except to point out that it's pretty dumb holiday for anyone here to care about. So shut up about it.
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
This whole world was stupid.
"I summon Gimmick Puppet - Scarecrow in attack mode. Then I set one card face down and end my turn."
He'd figured that out right away, as soon as he'd activated his D-Gazer and found that it showed absolutely nothing. There was no AR here. That alone was enough to make the whole place suck. How were they supposed to duel without AR? Destroying his pathetic fans in a duel was the only thing he really enjoyed anymore, and even that had been losing its charm.
Luckily, he'd figured out the solution to that one pretty quickly. There were duel disks here too, except they projected holograms instead of linking up with a D-Gazer. Which was kind of cool, sort of. It was both not quite as exciting as what he was used to and slightly more exciting at the same time. It made dueling just that bit more fun again though. That and the duelists here.
"Trap activate: Gimmick Box! When I would receive battle damage, this card negates it and then summons itself as a monster on my field with attack equal to the damage that was negated."
They were all just as disgustingly pathetic as the duelists back home, but there were no Xyz monsters here, so dueling them was a little different, at least. It was interesting facing decks with monsters and strategies he'd never seen before, and it was a slight challenge adjusting his own strategies in response. But it was also irritating. Half his deck was meant to counter Xyz monsters in some way. His favorite strategy was to use Giant Killer, but without Xyz monsters on the opponent's field, Giant Killer was only useful as a defensive wall. Most of the time. There were, thankfully, a couple other duelists with Xyz monsters here.
Yuma Tsukumo...and Ryoga. Of course, that bastard Ryoga would have to be here. His dear brother would call it fate that they couldn't seem to escape each other, and then he'd point out that if Ryoga weren't here, he'd end up brooding about him anyway. And he'd be right. After what Tron had said...
"Tch. I banish Scarecrow from my Graveyard to Special Summon Gimmick Puppet - Night Joker from my hand."
What Tron had said didn't matter here, and he didn't want to think about it anyway. He wasn't even sure if he was just paranoid and over-thinking things. He'd done everything Tron had ever asked of him, even if he'd hated it...even his loss to Yuma and Kaito had at least exposed their strengths and weaknesses. Tron couldn't just ignore that. He'd have to acknowledge how hard he'd fought for them. Ryoga wasn't even part of their family...
"I overlay my Level 8 Gimmick Box and Night Joker. I will crate an Overlay Network with these two DARK monsters!"
How could Tron want someone who wasn't even in their family? They'd all fought so hard for him...hell, Ryoga hadn't even had his life destroyed by Dr. Faker the way they had. Maybe if Tron wanted the Tsukumo kid, it might almost be understandable, but Ryoga wasn't a part of this. He could never understand.
"Xyz Summon! Appear now, Numbers 40: Gimmick Puppet - Heaven's Strings!"
He couldn't understand what it was like for his family to suddenly be torn apart by some bastard his father had considered a friend.
"Then I equip it with the spell card Destiny's Strings. When my monster attacks, I send the top card of my deck to my graveyard. If it's a monster, your monster won't be destroyed, but Heaven's Strings will be able to attack as many times as that monster's level."
He would never be able to understand what it was like for his father to return as some horribly warped caricature of himself. His sister wouldn't turn out like that.
"Level 8."
And now that he was here he couldn't even make Dr. Faker suffer for what he'd done to their family. It had been bad enough before, having to wait while Heartland stood tall and proud on the horizon. And now that they finally had a chance to make everything right again, he had to be stuck here in this fucking stupid, awful place.
"Now, let me show you my true fan service! Attack, Heaven's Strings! And again, and again!"
At least III and V weren't here. He missed them already, but it would have been even worse for them to be stuck here too. Maybe. V had never seemed to mind waiting as much. III, of course, was unconscious because of that bastard Yuma and the Original Numbers, or he probably would have had a blast here. Maybe he could have finally seen all those places he so far had only been able to visit through his cards.
"My fan service isn't over yet! Heaven's Strings' effect: by using an Overly Unit, it can ensure all other monsters on the field will be destroyed at the end of your next turn, and then inflict damage equal to the their total attack points!"
Yuma would have to pay for that. Yuma and the Original Numbers. They would both pay for hurting his brother. He wouldn't even have to hold back on them like he had to do with most duelists here; they had the right cards, and they had a Numbers. probably more than one. It would be a pleasure to destroy them both.
"With this, it's over! You point up a good fight, but it wasn't even close to my level!"
Oh, he would have to take out Ryoga first, of course. He would always chose to fight Ryoga over anyone else. But eventually, he'd take them all out. They're get in his way like they always did and he'd destroy them.
FINAL NOTES:
IV will be arriving with three Numbers cards, No. 15, No. 40, and No. 88 along with his deck. Just so you know.
